FEMA Flood Insurance Rates

fema flood insurance ratesNatural disasters can happen without warning and no matter how sophisticated a disaster predicting device is, people still have to suffer from it due to the late or no warning beforehand. Since nobody can fight off disasters, they have to cope with it in whatever condition they are in. In other words, they have to be well prepared for any natural disaster that can happen, instead of resisting it.

If somebody is already prepared, he or she will have peace of mind knowing that his or her properties are well protected. Of all the natural disasters that happen, nowadays flood is one of those that often happens even in an area where it used to be safe from the flood.

You probably have seen from many information media that a region that is usually dry is deluged with water fast and hard. In another region which is typically safe, water suddenly inundated the area without warning. Flood is typically a very dangerous disaster whether it happens fast or slowly since it breaks properties and their owners.

Within the USA, there is Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that delineates FIRM (Flood Insurance Rate Map), which is an official map that displays the floodplains especially the areas of explicitly special hazard and zones of risk premiums. FEMA flood insurance rates are briefly explained in the following.

For residential areas with moderate to low risks, the annual FEMA flood insurance rates of risk policies range from $154 to $405 for the coverage of building and contents including basement or enclosure and from $129 to $365 if excluding basement or enclosure. If the coverage is for the contents only, the rough annual premium rates are from $68 to $238; while the annual premium for contents above the ground (for residence that has more than one floor), the rates range between $49 and $194.

For the residential areas with high risks, the annual premium rates of risk policies range from $472 to $2,734 for the coverage of building and contents. For the coverage of building only, the annual FEMA flood insurance rates start from $376 to $1,691; while for the coverage of contents only, the annual premium rates of risk policies start from $136 to $1,083.

The above illustrations show that there are several types of coverage that can be chosen which depends on the location of the area and risks. The lower the residential areas, the lower the annual premium rates that have to be paid.
